CD Handling Tips
Your CD disc collection will probably grow over time. You should, therefore, al-
ways exercise care when handling CD discs.
Keep your CD discs in their original case when they’re not in use. Scratches on the
surface of a disc can distrort the information, or even make it impossible to read.
Always handle CD discs by their outer edges. Oily fingerprints or other smudges
on the surface tend to accumulate dirt. Placing a dirty disc in your CD-ROM
Drive can distort your data or even damage the drive mechanism.
If a CD disc becomes dirty, clean both sides with a damp cloth by wiping gently
from the center spindle hole out toward the edge of the disc. Wiping in any
other direction grinds the dirt into the protective surface.
When cleaning any CD discs, do not use abrasives or chemical solvents, includ-
ing benzine, thinner, or commercial cleaners intended for use with audio discs.
Insert CD discs in the tray with the printed side facing up.
Store your CD discs where they will not be subjected to direct sunlight or high
temperatures.
Do not apply adhesive labels or tapes to, or write on any part of a CD disc.
